Suit Filed to Stop Light Rail On the I-90 Bridge

From The News Tribune:
http://www.thenewstribune.com/updates/story/832337.html
The suit claims that lanes should not be taken away (the express lanes) from a freeway.
The lanes were always designed to move large amounts of people. Sad too that this line will pass right past his major development: Bellevue Square. Mabye they don’t need a station after all…

Strong Ridership During First Week of Light Rail

From Sound Transit:
http://www.soundtransit.org/News-and-Events/News-Releases/Links1stWkRidership.xml
First week average: 12,000 riders per day.
Weekend averages: Saturday: 16,900, Sunday: 15,100
The weekly ridership numbers is well on the way to the predicted 21,900 riders per day by the end of the year. The weekend numbers track with what I expected; the line as it is now serves 2 major purposes. It brings […]

Compendum of Light Rail Incidents

Here are some of the incidents on the Seattle Light Rail line in it’s first week of operation. Please note, none of these are unexpected for the opening of a new line, especially the first of its type in a major city.

First Light Rail Line Death

From The News Tribune:
http://www.komonews.com/news/local/51861617.html
While this is a horrible incident,  it has already been proven that this was a suicide, NOT a problem with the line’s design or safety.

Tunnel or Surface?

Bellevue argues whether to put the East Link line in a tunnel downtown or run it on the surface.

The correct, if more expensive and difficult answer, is a tunnel. Running rail at grade inevitably results in problems.

Portland Gets $75 Million to Extend Streetcar Line

From KOMO 4:
http://www.komonews.com/news/local/44098532.html
Portland, Oregon gets money to extend the Portland Streetcar on the East side of the Willamette River. This will definitely help transit connections in  Portland, where the Southeast side of the city doesn’t have much in the way of either trolleys or light rail.

Hmm, so this is now the second incident with this line. Hopefully the community learns to live with the trains before they begin service in July.
