I-405 Gets $277 Million

http://www.komonews.com/news/local/42141027.html
With a $30 million boost from the Federal Government, the I-405 to SR 520 Braided Ramp project will be accelerated.
This project should greatly aid traffic flow in this area. Backups caused by people merging from NE 8th street conflicting with drivers coming from north I-405 to SR 520 cause massive backups here every day.

High Speed Rail in the US?

From The Seattle Times:
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2008932212_fastrain27.html
Interesting article discusses the state of high speed rail in the United States. Also discusses the reasons why it hasn’t worked here versus in Europe, mainly due to greater distances and less population density.
California has already passed legislation to begin construction of their high speed rail between Los Angeles and San […]

Narrows Bridge Lights Must Reimburse State

Posted today in the News Tribune:
http://blogs.thenewstribune.com/politics/2009/03/27/group_must_reimburse_state_for_work_on_n
“Basically, the state Department of Transportation will take care of the lights, maintenance, etc. But only if the Narrows Bridge Lights Organization, the non-profit group that wants to put decorative lights on the brige, reimburses the state for that work within 3 months of when the work is done.”
I hope […]

Link Light Rail Fares Set

From Sound Transit:
http://www.soundtransit.org/x10920.xml
Fares will start at $1.75 and go up to $2.50 for adults. It adds $.05 per mile past  the base fare.
What I don’t see is an all-day discount card similar to what is used by Portland MAX or Vancouver’s SkyTrain. That would be nice although I know there are other discount programs […]

Transportation Budget Plan Set

http://www.komonews.com/news/local/41851932.html
“Under the Senate’s proposed transportation budget, a half-dozen major highway projects would continue drawing money based on the project list developed last year. They include the Alaskan Way Viaduct in Seattle, the State Route 520 bridge over Lake Washington, and the State Route 395 North Spokane Corridor.”

Smart Buses Come to Pierce County

From our friends over at the News Tribune:
http://www.thenewstribune.com/topstory/story/686148.html
The system appears similar to the Smart Bus system used by TriMet and discussed by Metro Transit. It allows for tracking of the buses, automatic announcement of stops along the route and emergency contact.

Tolling Comes to SR 520

http://blogs.thenewstribune.com/politics/2009/03/23/520_bridge_drivers_will_get_a_bill_not_a
Unlike the Narrows Bridge, the 520 system will be fully automated. You will use a transponder and if you do not have one, you will receive a bill in the mail based on your license plate. This system will be similar to how the Golden Ears Bridge in Vancouver, BC will operate.
The controversy is that […]

Tall Ships Video is Now Available

Purchase online here: http://www.northwoods-graphics.com/tallships/index.html
Hey, it involves a form of transportation (Tall Ships) that were very important to the growth of Tacoma, Seattle and the Puget Sound region.  In fact the motto of the Port of Tacoma is “Where the rails meet the sails”.
And it includes video I shot at the festival (especially the Lady Washington […]
